2015 was the year when Amanda Wood started a journey that will change her life forever. She got so tired of being invisible among so many people, although she was weighed 375 pounds and was wearing clothes size 28. All those years while she was struggling with her weight she realized the heavier you are the more invisible you become to the other people. She just become tired of being tired and one day she decided that she had enough of carrying so much weight on her body all the time.
Nowadays when she remembers how much pounds she had, it is so hard to even say that. When she decided to make some changes in her life, first she did was visiting her family doctor, who referred her to a nutritionist. The nutritionist gave her instructions how to lower the calories that she is consuming, as well how to undertake all those tips that he told to her in order to determine herself to a healthy eating habits and appropriate portion sizes that will lead her to losing calories. After two years of the start of her attempt, at the age of 37 Amanda succeeded in losing 150 pounds.
How she succeeded in her attempt? The next thing that she did, after the visit of the nutritionist, was downloading an application on her self-phone that was tracking everything that she was eating and drinking during the day. As she started to lose her weight more and more, she got more and more motivated and started to search more and more about running a healthy life. The next thing that she did was tracking her daily macros setting a specific target of how much calories she needs to enter on a daily basis. Through this procedure she was ensuring herself that every day she was getting 35 percentages of her calories from carbs, 40 percentages from proteins, and 25 percentages from fat.
Following is her daily diet:
– Breakfast: overnight oats or eggs;
– Morning snack: protein shake;
– Lunch: turkey meatballs with spaghetti squash, chilli, or chicken Caesar salad with low-fat Greek yogurt dressing;
– Afternoon snack: yogurt with fruit, some crackers and cheese, or pepperoni stick and an apple;
Dinner: lean protein, usually seafood or chicken, and some vegetables.
Regarding exercises, workout, and gyms Amanda admits that she has lost her self-esteem and motivation several times at the gym, before undertaking this attempt. She did not visit the gym until she lost 60-70 pounds, because she was feeling so ashamed and sort of afraid. Then she felt that she has lot more energy than previously that needs to be used somehow. The problem was that she wanted to exercise, but did not know what type of exercises to practise. So she ended up hiring a personal trainer, who was the greatest investment she had recently done. The most important thing is that the trainer helped her to gain a great amount of self-esteem, besides the instructions of proper form for different exercises. Despite that, he introduced her to the usage of free weights, which became her favourite exercises. Most important he showed her how to love the gym, so nowadays spending some time at the gym is her favourite time of the week. She turned into a person who is willing to try new things and to lift heavier weights. Interesting fact is that those days when she is exercising she is consuming a few hundred extra calories.
Her goal was to find a balance at first i.e. to create a relationship with a healthy food and healthy lifestyle that will be long-lasting. Most important that she returned her self-confidence and started to love herself. Amanda explains that she is not restricting her organism from anything. There are days when she is going out for lunch with her friends, and she is eating grilled cheese. She is doing that because she wants to and because is that happens once in a week or two, not every day. She explains that she would rather losing weight slowly and enjoying life, instead of losing weight quickly and missing great things in her life.
The non-scale victories were the one that helped Amanda during the periods when she was feeling unmotivated and her self-esteem was on the lowest level.
She admits that the greatest pleasure she enjoyed was when she started to do her shopping at every store that she wants, instead of struggling to find some clothes at the shop with large sizes. Also, seeing her clothes size dropping down and reaching the size that she hasn’t seen since she was a child, was so enthusiastic and astonishing to her. Another thing was that she did not have to put the seat belt extender while traveling with a plane or feeling ashamed every time when was going to the laundry and trying to hide those giant pants while taking them out of the dryer.
If you are wondering how she succeeded in this attempt, you will find the answer in the mini goals. Instead of focusing on great amount of pounds to lose, Amanda was setting mini goals and was focusing herself on how much pounds she needs to lose until her next mini goal. She encourages that setting a mini goal to lose 5 pounds, and then another 5 more is much more manageable for your body and you psyche, instead of setting an enormous goal to lose 200 pounds at once.
Another thing that she did was creating an Instagram account. You may found her on Instagram under the name ‘mandies_transformation’, and get motivated by all the posts about recipes and workout information that she is sharing. She is using her account not only to share useful tips, but to follow other people who are physically active and are motivating her to stay on the track.
Amanda explains that you need to accept that nobody is perfect, and that will be the only way how will become kind to yourself and your body. She admits that it is totally normal to have days when you will not be in a great mood and you will feel unmotivated, but the most important thing is to keep moving forward and not giving up. Keep with your struggle and get back on the track with your next workout or healthy meal.
Another important thing that she shares is not to compare with the others, because every person differs from another person, so it is not normal to expect the same things as some other person, or get the same results as some other person did. The weight loss is a personal experience and could not be compared with the weight loss of somebody else. It is good and helpful to learn and get motivated from others, until you stay focused on your consistency with your workout and healthy diet.
